Fabric yarn is an excellent choice for weaving a rug because it can be found in a variety of colors and patterns, quite durable, and it’s thick enough to make quicker work than if you were using a worsted-weight wool yarn.

This project is so simple to make. All you need is a 100% cotton tablecloth, water based polyurethane, foam roller, rug pad for underneath and spray adhesive.

To make this project, all you need is a a large piece of cardboard,  black marker, scissors, rope in various sizes and colors, neon twine, and pompoms. Make a cardboard circle, cut slits and wedge twine, weave rope, cut twine off cardboard, and all finished.

5. DIY Kilim Rug

First of all, ironed the fabric, cut a piece slightly larger when finished, leaving room around the sides to fold over the backing. For the rug backing, use rubber shelf lining. Place the fabric with the side then cut the backing to the size and laid that out on top of the fabric. Drew a line of the glue across one entire edge of the backing and fold the fabric over and pressed into place until it stuck (for 4 sides). Once it was dried, add a fringe trim and glued that on the two shorter edges.

6. DIY Overdyed Rug

You will need a wool/ silk/ or cotton rug, rit fabric dye, spray bottle, plastic tarp and scotchgard. To make this project, use with protective rug mat. Dye could stain your floor if your rugs get wet or dye was not rinsed out thoroughly.

7. Make Your Own Rope Rug

Prepare a clothesline, fabric scissors, fabric with different patterns and standard sewing machine to make this rug. Take the beginning of your rope and wrap the end with one of your fabric strips and start to wrap the fabric from either right to left or left to right. Use sewing machine to sew straight down the rope a few inches to hold the wrapped end in place. Keeping your machine needle in the rope, continue to wrap the rope with the strip at a slight angle so you are continuing down the rope. Once you get a foot or so of wrapped rope, sew straight down the middle of the rope until you reach the end of your wrapped rope.

Continue this process until you have 10-15′ of wrapped and sewn rope.

8. Faux Fur Rug
